New AP-Linux in the works
December 4, 2016For many of you that want to know if the sound is improved in this new 3.1 version, the answer is no. This is mainly a bug-fix release. What have been changed:
– Now system can be upgraded with ‘pacman -Suy’. You can’t upgrade from v3.0 to v.3.1. You have to do it with fresh install procedure.
– Removed from menu setpcm/setdsd config. Default is now DSD.
– Removed buffer_time & period_time from mpd.conf.
– MPD is upgraded to 0.18.16 version.
– Now .asoundrc is persistent between reboots
– Added sacd-ripper, a command tool for ripping DSD iso files
– Fixed Nginx server for album covers on MPdroid
– Replaced XBMC with Kodi
– Conky bug fix
– Fixed alsamixer unmute bug on some DACs.
– All packages updated to 18.5.2015.

So which is it?
“Now system can be upgraded with ‘pacman -Suy’”
or
“You can’t upgrade from v3.0 to v.3.1. You have to do it with fresh install procedure”
With v3.1 you can upgrade every day. If you try to upgrade v3.0, system may brake.
So maybe it would be clearer if the news item said something like;
‘…to upgrade from V3 to V3.1 it is necessary to perform a new install, following the same procedure as documented for installing V3. Once V3.1 is installed, future updates can be performed using ‘pacman -Suy’…’.
Yes, I was in a hurry 🙂
How I can change the background image of AP-Linux?
There is a file called ~/.fluxbox/startup. Copy your picture to ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/ folder and edit first line of a startup file.
Hello mlerota.
So where can we find MD5 check sum for v3.1 iso?
Thank you for the great linux music distro 🙂
There is no iso. I didn’t have time to do it so you will have to live without it.
After V3.1 install MPD does not recognize .m4a files in my case. Is this normal or I did something wrong? Is there any way to enable MPD to play .m4a files in V3.1? In previus versions .m4a files played well. Thanks for nice sounding distro.
How can I install V3.1 without iso?
I beg your pardon, I’ve just started using Linux…
Many thanks
After install AP3.1 I was asked to login server1, what name and password should I enter ?
@max
install instructions: http://www.ap-linux.com/documentation/install-instructions-v3-0/ ; use APL 3.1 backup file instead of 3.0, you can get it here: http://www.ap-linux.com/download/
@Echo Airiti
use V3.0 install instructions. password is “muser”.
@mlerota
any comment on my upper question regarding MDP and non-compatible music files in this version would be aprishiated
Sorry, at the moment I am not able to test anything because I am not at home. You will have to find the answer yourself or convert the files to something else.
It can’t play ape file, After install the ap-linux 3.1!
the ap-linux 3.0 can play the ape and flac file!
How to let AP-Linux-v3.1support chinese characters ?
Should this version work with my Asus Xonar Xense? 3.0 didn’t…
Do you have anymore information on running kodi using your os?
What? It’s working.
Thanks for the new release! I have couple questions regarding 3.1:
1. Is support for ape format dropped? I checked with mpd -V in terminal and didn’t see ape under [Decoder plugins] section.
2. I saw the sacd-ripper mentioned in change log but didn’t find it in the system. How can I use it?
Thanks again for releasing v3.1!
1. Unintentionally. There will be an update of mpd package with ape support. 2. From command line. Go to the official website and find examples there.
Thank you! AP-L is the best audio system I’ve encountered on PC so far, stable, configurable and good sound. Keep up the good work!
Do you have plans to release MPD with APE support, unfortunately half of my audio cannot be played now.
Thank you for support.
Yes, it’s a bug. It worked in previous version.
Hello

Hello,
I’m getting problems with Nuc Kit DN2820 FYKH. Problem is gpu driver not working in desktop. I updated the system, intel gpu drivers also updated. But system stuck in vesa driver. Can’t force to run intel, libva or va api drivers. When I remove the xf86-video-vesa driver, system crashes. I explore the problem where it causes from and I found Kernel version is old for bay trail platform. Minimum recommended kernel is 3.18 based kernel for bay trail platform. Also I tried manually create conf files for: modprobe, mkinitcpio and xorg.conf.d/20-gpudriver.conf. After all conf files, compiling via “sudo mkinitcpio -p linux-rt” and reboot. After rebooting system says: “[drm: i915_pci_probe] Error: Preliminary hardware support disabled.”
In genereal drivers are installed and updated but not activated.
Sorry for complex text and my bad english.
I also emailed that situation.
If you show me how to enable Intel gpu, i will be preciated. Because i cant watch videos via mplayer, vlc or web based videos or I can’t use Kodi.
Thank you for support.

It’s probably temporary bug at Arch Linux repository. Try again later.

The error is caused by an out-of-date set of keys. You can update the keys manually or, try updating pacman first, which seems easier:
pacman -Sy
pacman -S pacman
Thanks Clem.
How can i back up my existing Playlist from Cantata player from 3.0 version and restore to the new version 3.1? where is the playlist file stored in file manager?
In /config/.mpd/playlists directory.
Hello, I try install 3.1 and still have the same error – to small hdd (I have 120gb sdd), any solution ?
Zdravo,
I’m puzzled… I’m trying to connect my synology NAS with no success… I’ve followed your instruction for the fstab, enable NFS settings on my Synology… here’s my fstab :
#
/dev/sda1 / ext4 noatime,discard,defaults,ro 0 1
/dev/sda2 /config ext4 noatime,discard,nofail,rw 0 2
/dev/sda3 /storage ext4 noatime,discard,nofail,user,rw 0 2
tmpfs /home tmpfs noatime,rw 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid,rw 0 0
tmpfs /run tmpfs nodev,nosuid,rw 0 0
tmpfs /var/tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid,rw 0 0
tmpfs /var/log tmpfs nodev,nosuid,rw 0 0
tmpfs /var/cache/pacman tmpfs nodev,nosuid,rw 0 0
192.168.1.103:/volume1/music /storage/Musique/synology nfs nfsvers=3,users,rw,auto 0 0
I’ve tried mount -a in terminal, this is what I get:
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking..
Any clues?
Hvala Vam,
m-p
ap-linux V3.1
Don’t know if this info is useful but at startup it says:
(FAILED) Failed to start NFS status monitor for NFSv2/3 locking..
See ‘systemctl status rpc-statd.service’ for details.
(*** ) A start job is running for /storage/Musique/synology (14s / 1min 37s)_
At that point Ap-linux starts..
Me again,
Ok… I’ve tried this option in fstab:
192.168.1.103:/volume1/music /storage/Musique/synology/ nfs nfsvers=3,auto,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.device-timeout=10,timeo=14,hard,intr,rw,noatime 0 0
With no result other than getting this message when the folder “synology” tries to populate the content of my NAS’s music folder:
Failed to open directory “synology”.
No such device.
Next thing I did is “mount -a” like this in X-Terminal:
…$ su
…: muser
…# mount -a
And the message I’ve receive:
Job for rpc-ststd.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See “systenctl status rpc-statd.service” and “journalctl -xe” for details.
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use ‘-o nolock’ to keep locks local, or start statd
I’m puzzled … any ideas ?
Hello,
I have just installed the 3.1 version. However, the CPU temperature is not shown in the conky window. Can you tell me where I can find the conky config file so I can correct it to display cpu temperature? Thank you.
Hi mlerota,
First off, thanks for AP-Linux 3.1 !
Using it on an old Macbook (core2), with a 2Qute Chordette DAC. The DAC does not have a HW volume control (i.e. straight line-out) – yet DeadBeef’s volume control can change the line level! Is this normal? If it is, how can it be disabled? My goal is to get the audio stream straight to the DAC, bit-perfect.
Thanks in advance!
Hi, folks.
Is it safe for the hardware with Intel and Windows-dedicated software to wipe all the stuff out from the hard disc and do the AP Linux installation?
Are there any serious pros and/or cons concerning the hardware?
There is no pros/cons. Linux works on Intel hardware.
Hi, folks.
I’m newbie with Linux but I already like it and I’m seriously thinking about jumping into AP-L on my audiophile-able pc. Is it totally safe for the hardware with Intel and Windows-dedicated software to do the AP Linux installation?
Are there any serious pros and/or cons concerning the hardware?
Thank you for answering.
Best Regards,
JayC
3.1 doesn’t work for me – utterly unstable, crashes in a matter of minutes; the 3.0 works very well. My HW: old Lenovo R61i, DAC: Schiit Modi 2 Uber
It;s posibille to make live boot from usb flash?
Hi!
Great job but…. how i can remove the timeout 1.30min at shutdown?!?! Or what it doing?!?!
PS: sometimes must wait the timeout, sometimes no…. must call “Mistery Inc” ?!? lol xD

Hi guys,
I’ve tried to install Clementine by following these instructions:
“mlerota August 25, 2015 at 12:09
[~]$ su
Password:
[~]# mount -o remount,rw /
[~]# pacman -Suy
[~]# pacman -S clementine”
and this is the error I got:

Do you want to delete it? [Y/n]
Do you want to delete it? [Y/n] n

I went ahead and installed Clementine anyway, but I got this error: [~]# clementine ~
clementine: error while loading shared libraries: libavcodec.so.57: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Any idea where I can find the necessarily libraries in order to get Clementine working ?
Cheers,
Dorian
Hi Dorian,
I tried to update my V3.1 doing:
[~]$ su
Password:
[~]# mount -o remount,rw /
[~]# pacman -Suy
But I encounter the same signature error of yours.
I found the solution on another forum:
dirmngr </dev/null
pacman-key --populate archlinux
pacman-key --refresh-keys
with these commands you’ll retrieve the signature of the packages 🙂
Thank you Arthuro. It worked… you’ve made my day ! 🙂
@dorian
You are welcome! I’m glad to be helpful 🙂
Now, is there someone able to help me install my HiFace Evo?
Hello, first of all a big THANK YOU for this distro. I played with version 2 in the past but gave up after a system crash, then tried Ubuntu Studio and never got it working completely to my liking on my low-end netbook (Atom 1.6 GHz, 1GB mem). Now with AP-Linux v3.1 I can confirm that it sounds very good indeed, at all rates up to 192 kHz!
I have one issue that I can not figure out myself though. My external DAC is an E-MU 0404 USB. On the freshly installed 3.1, the correct sample rate was set automatically on the DAC. I was impressed and a very happy man, as this was the first time this has worked for me on Linux (it did on Windows 7, after much struggling).
After updating the system however this functionality is lost. And so am I. I tried deadbeef as well as mpd with all possible configurations for mixer and output; no succes. I can set the sample rate manually with alsamixer but it would be very nice to have the automatic sample rate selection working again. Any suggestions what I can try further would be appreciated!
Someone could explain why there is a terrible absence of help in this distribution???
It’s a pity!
A good project thrown away by awful support.
I’m very sad.
