Version V2.1 is out

June 19, 2013 / Marko / Documentation, News

We have found two bugs in V2.0. One is related to S/PDIF output and the other is related to playing music. Sometimes music just fell out of sync with jackd server and noisy sound appear. And if you played some videos with mplayer or vlc without jackd, using only ALSA, Dolby Digital or DTS via S/PDIF output, your sound card could freeze. If you are on V2.0 you don’t have to upgrade to V2.1. You can just apply these fixes. And for all of you who asked, yes sound is not so good in V2.0.
1. Download these three files:

Patches for V2.0.

patch1-V2.0

patch2-V2.0

patch3-V2.0

2. Open terminal
3. Navigate to the directory where you have downloaded files (default Downloads)

  cd Downloads
  sudo dpkg -i linux-libc-dev_3.2.32-rt48-1_i386.deb linux-headers-3.2.32-rt48_3.2.32-rt48-1_i386.deb linux-image-3.2.32-rt48_3.2.32-rt48-1_i386.deb

4. Then remove old kernel that is causing problems

sudo apt-get purge linux-headers-3.8.10-rt6 linux-image-3.8.10-rt6

5. Reboot and you will login to Linux with new 2.3.32 kernel that fixes these bugs.
6. If you want to be sure that everything is OK type this command in terminal:

uname -r

And if it says 3.2.32-rt48 then everything is OK.

Many thanks for your work and effort on this updated version (2.1) … Like you said for version 2.0 it wasn’t as good has you’ve probably expected… Did you made that version on a Friday afternoon ;o)

    Lol … and thanks again

I was too preoccupied with Toshiba laptops and their problems and I wanted to get them work, so I forget to test sound properly.

    Just wandering…..

When I’ve installed the patches in the terminal I’ve receive an error message :
” dkms: conf: error! no built_module_name
    directive specified for record #0
    error! bad conf. file
file: does not represent a valid dkms.conf file ”

Do think I should install the 2.1 version over my 2.0 with patches or that error message is negligible

    Thanks for your advice

You can safely ignore this error message. You don’t have to install 2.1 version over 2.0. Kernel was the problem. But if you are going to use M2tech devices, it’s probably best for you to install fresh 2.1 version. By fresh I mean wipe the 2.0 version (wipe=remove, format, partitions), and then install 2.1 version.

Not sure if this is a Mint issue, but with both V1 and V2 of AP Linux, my machine often refuses to fully shutdown after selecting the option to shut it down. After closing the Linux mint login / logout screen, it will often just hang at a prompt waiting for a command that is never sent. Again, this doesn’t happen 100% of the time (sometimes a command in red appears, and initiates the shutdown), but it nonetheless happens pretty consistently.

I didn’t have this problem shutting down with lubuntu (the distro I previously used) on this same rig but I have had it with both your original and V2 releases of the software. Any thoughts?

My thanks in advance for both your insight and the software. I’ve been mentioned it to all my audiophile contacts on the web.

    Sincerely,

    Matt

It’s a Linux Mint issue. I am shutting down my machine with “sudo shutdown -h now” in terminal.

I see kernel 3.8 rt in your screenshots, I installed it and I only see kernel 3.2.32 rt, and 3.2.0-4, did I do something wrong ?

I installed APL twice and I still don’t see kernel 3.8 rt in GRUB, I must be missing something.

The screenshots are from older version. Everything is OK.
